From a church on Queen Street to a house of Allah

For years, Muslim families in Fort Erie drove to Niagara Falls, St. Catharines or across the bridge to Buffalo just to pray together. There was no place in town for the daily prayers, no imam to teach our children the Qur’an, and nowhere to gather for Jumu’ah.

With the support of the community, a former church building at 35 Queen Street became Masjid Nuh. We named it after the Prophet Nuh, who built the Ark with patience when others doubted, and carried the believers safely through the flood.

Today the adhan is called five times a day, a few blocks from the Niagara River. The doors are open to every Muslim, to new Muslims, and to neighbours who simply want to learn.
